thinking about upsizing to 17” wheels need advice on offset and fitment

I currently have 16" stock alloy wheels and I'm thinking of going up to 17" wheels with 225/50/R17 tires. I'm thinking about wheel widths of about 7.5 to 8 inches, with a 35-40 offset. I'm just not sure if those will rub or cause problems with my car parts.

Has anyone tried something like this before? I'd like to hear what happened and what offset and width worked best to avoid fit issues. Thanks!

Generally, the closer you get to the edge of the fender or inner suspension parts, the higher the chance of rubbing.

My friend used this online comparison tools to punch in their old and new wheel/tire specs. it showed hum exactly how much the new setup will stick out or go inward compared to his old one. i forgot the website though but Google has the answers!

That size combo should work well for your Venue. A width of 7.5 to 8 inches with a 35 to 40 offset is pretty safe. Just make sure to check that there's enough clearance in the fender liner when you're at full lock and during compression.

Going from 16s to 17s is a sweet upgrade, with 7.5–8-inch wheels and 35–40 offset, you're probably fine...but yeah double-check clearance unless you want your fenders doing the cha-cha with your tires
